Here at Bevel, we’re strong believers that a good skin care routine can really make all the difference. What good are the freshest kicks or well-tailored suit, if your face game isn’t up to par? And while you’re not a guy who gets easily intimidated, your finesses works everywhere from the basketball court to the boardroom, when it comes to the grooming aisle, well that’s another story. With so many products to choose from, we understand why you probably haven’t upgraded your skin care routine in a while. So to help your next trip to Target or Sephora a little less stressful, we’re breaking down how to build the best skin care routine for your lifestyle. Now you have no reason for your skin not to be on 100!

Whether you have five minutes or an entire hour to dedicate to your daily skin care routine, it should always start with a great cleanser, then an exfoliator 1-2 times a week, followed by a hydrating moisturizer. To get your skin so fresh and so clean start with a proper cleanser; and yes it’s different than the Dove bar you currently have in the shower. Washing your face, both in the morning and at night, will clean your face of dirt, oil and other debris and will help the rest of your products work better. For smoother healthier looking skin, which we know you want, it’s important to exfoliate a few time a week. You know that St. Ives Apricot Scrub your mom or auntie always used, that’s an exfoliator. Exfoliation not only unclogs pores but it also hydrates and visibly improve uneven skin tone. Once you’re done with that, moisturize. Just like with cleansers, those formulated specifically for your face contain special ingredients to help keep your skin looks its best, so just slathering cocoa butter on your face isn’t going to cut it.

Now that you’ve got the basics down, it’s time to kick things up a notch. Below we build on the three-step skin care routine with various products and steps to help you put your best face forward, in a way that easily fits into your schedule.

The Minimalist

Time is of the essence for you. While other guys might be have the luxury of sitting around and applying eight different steps, you simply just don’t have the time. So multi-tasking products, like Derma E’s Purifying Gel Cleanser, a cleanser and exfoliator in one, or Balm + Co’s Beard Oil, which doubles as both a beard moisturizer and lightweight facial oil, are going going to be clutch for you. Using 2-in-1 products means you get to skip steps, which is #majorkey.

The Fitness Junkie

Waking up at 5:30 to hit the gym in the AM or skipping happy hour for a CrossFit class isn’t a problem for you, actually you look forward to it. And while hitting the gym multiple times a week has your arms and chest on swole, it could be taking toll on your face. After each workout it’s important to wash your face since letting sweat sit on your skin for a prolonged length of time can cause breakouts and clog your pores. Keep a stash of face wipes, these ones by Burt’s Bees are great, in your gym bag or locker to cleanse your face sin water.

The Workaholic

Sitting in an office for hours on end is great for your career and helping you get that promotion, but your skin is probably paying the price of those early mornings and late nights. Thanks to the poor air circulation and blasting heat that comes along with office life, your face could definitely use some added hydration.

Insert serums.

A serum is a skin care product you apply after cleansing but before moisturizing, with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin – they have a very high concentration of active ingredients. Kiehl’s Age Defender Power Serum boosts the efficacy of your moisturizer and delivers instant hydration to dry skin.

The Product Junkie

Skin care products don’t intimidate you, in fact you’ve already got a multi-step routine that you do religiously every AM and PM. So instead of introducing new products into your arsenal, why not incorporate a few devices into your regimen? Start your cleansing routine with Clarisonic’s Alpha Fit Men’s Cleansing System. Not only will it provide your skin with a deep clean but it also gently exfoliates. It’s also great for guys with beards.

Masks should also be a part of your weekly routine if they’re not already. After you cleanse and before you moisturize slap on a mask for 15-20 minutes while you scroll through your IG feed and let it go to work. Origin’s Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask is great because it flushes out environmental toxins and visibly reduces the size of pores.
