Hand care is an essential part of your daily grooming routine. Your hands are the first things that will show your age, especially if you don’t take care of them. So let us help you. Here are a few ways to keep your hands healthy and looking young.
Be More Cautious
Without realizing it, we tend to put our hands through a lot of wear and tear. One of the worst of these mistakes is not using gloves to wash dishes. Dishwashing liquids, which are alkaline in nature, are extremely tough on skin. In addition to stripping grease and dirt off dishes, dishwashing liquids will also strip skin of natural oils that are meant to protect it. So what do you do? Always wear gloves when you’re washing dishes.
Be More Sensitive When Washing
All day you’re touching objects that are covered with thousands, if not millions, of germs. The standard advice would be to wash you hands, and to do so constantly. Right? Kind of. You should make a healthy habit of washing your hands when possible, but there are proper ways to do it. First, don’t use hot water. This may seem counter to traditional belief, but hot water not only strips your hands of natural oils which will only dry your hands out more. Instead, consider using tepid water. Also, most dermatologists recommend using milder soaps such as Dove, Neutrogena, Basis, and Purpose and Oil of Olay as these soaps are not as harsh on the skin.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Moisturizers help prevent your skin from drying. They make your skin feel soft and smooth by holding water in the outer layer. Just like with your face, moisturizers don’t just protect, they replenish and supply important nutrients in your skin. But not all moisturizers are created equal. Make sure to look for a few key ingredients such as glycerin, alpha hydroxyl acids, and urea, which will draw moisture from the air around you into your skin. Emollients absorb deep into the skin, replacing oils that have been washed away to make the skin smoother. Avoid moisturizers that are fragranced or that include too many preservatives, which can irritate the skin, or worse, cause an allergic reaction.
Don’t Play Rough With Your Nails
Most guys don’t get manicures. That’s okay as long as you make sure you do a few daily things to make sure your hands are healthy and attractive. Don’t bite your fingernails. Besides putting thousands of germs in your mouth, you can damage your nails by chewing on them. Use a moisturizer on your nails as well as skin to help keep nails healthy. You can even soak your nails in your favorite essential oils for a bit of relaxation. Lastly, get use to using a file. A file can help remove snags, and help shape nails.
There is no universal law that says your hands have to age faster than the rest of your body. If you treat them well and take preventative measures, your hands can stay smooth and healthy for a very long time.
