Words by Brian Wilder

They say there’s never enough time in the day, and if you’re one of the exceptionally busy men out there, those words couldn’t be truer. That doesn’t mean you have to sell your skin short. Time management–and a little bit of creativity–can help you maintain healthy looking skin, even when your schedule is packed. Here’s how:

Master Your Morning Routine

Making sure you’re putting your best face forward can be as easy as creating a daily morning routine and sticking to it. For example, if you know you’re the kind of person who goes to bed late and gets up even later, overnight facial lotions are going to be your best friend.

On the flipside, if you’re an early riser, you just need to make sure you use all your go-to skincare products correctly (and liberally) as your skin is going to be exposed to the elements for a lot longer than those who can sleep in.

Essentially, the more effort you put into your morning routine, the less you’ll have to manage as the day goes on.

Where the Stash At?

Some of you guys probably already do this and don’t even know it, but stashing your favorite hand lotion, lip balm, blotting sheets or other skincare favorites is a great way to give your skin the help it needs without feeling the need to take your entire bathroom with you.

If you’re new to the idea of stashing, or just want to graduate from the three-year-old bottle of cocoa butter you keep in your glove box, we recommend keeping the following stashed around the areas you spend the most time in during the work day:

  • A trusted lip balm or chapstick with SPF
  • A moisturizer or balm, formulated for areas that tend to get dry
  • Blotting sheets, especially if you have naturally oily skin
  • Face wipes for sensitive skin, as they come in handy if you’re transitioning from work to happy hour

Mid-Day Maintenance

We touched on this earlier, but there will also be times where you’ll have to do a quick skin care check-up, suddenly, in the middle of your busy day. Whether it’s because of a last-minute client meeting or a lunch date, you’ll need to get in the habit of “freshening up”, so to speak.

It sounds extra, but even if you’re sitting in front of a computer all day, you’re still sweating, producing oils, collecting dead skin cells, and more, on your face and skin. Right before or immediately after lunch, grab a few of those toiletries we mentioned earlier and spruce your face up. It’ll brighten up your appearance without having to resort to caffeine for a pick-me-up.

A Little Goes a Long Way

When it comes to maximizing your skincare routine, alongside your time, think small: smaller products for easy storage, a smaller, more concise window of time for your morning routine, etc. With this mentality, you’ll be able to get things done and keep your skin under control.
